Not investment advice
All content published on Nickelpie (https://nickelpie.com) is for educational and informational purposes only. It is not, and must not be relied on as, personalized investment, financial, legal, accounting, or tax advice. Nickelpie is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer, and nothing here creates an advisory or fiduciary relationship with any reader. You are solely responsible for your own investment decisions.
We do publish opinions about specific securities, including ratings. Those opinions are impersonal: they are prepared for a general readership, published on a regular schedule, and identical for every reader. They are not tailored to your finances, your holdings, your tax position, your time horizon or your tolerance for loss, and we have no knowledge of any of those things. Nothing we publish should be treated as a personalized recommendation to you, or as a solicitation to buy or sell anything.
How to read our ratings
Some articles carry two separate ratings. They answer different questions, they are produced by different methods, and they routinely disagree. That is deliberate, not an error.
| Rating | What it is | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| Business rating Buy / Hold / Sell | Our subjective opinion of a company over roughly a twelve-month horizon, formed from public filings and public information. | Not a price target, not a forecast, and not an instruction to trade. "Hold" means we see no clear edge either way, not that you should own it. |
| Quant rating Bull / Flat / Bear | A mechanical reading of recent price action only: where the close sits against session VWAP and the 10, 50 and 200-day moving averages, the size of the day’s move against Average True Range, and volume against its average. | Not a prediction. It describes what the price has already done. It is stale the next time the market opens. |
Ratings reflect our opinion on the date of publication and we are under no obligation to update them. We do not publish a verified performance record for our ratings, and you should not assume one exists. Where a 200-day moving average is unavailable because a company has too little trading history, we say so rather than substituting a shorter one.
A rating is a starting point for your own work, not a substitute for it. If you want advice about your particular situation, speak to a licensed professional who is willing to take responsibility for it. We are not, and we do not.
Options carry substantial risk
Options are not suitable for every investor and can result in losses that exceed your initial investment. Selling a cash-secured put obligates you to buy 100 shares per contract even if the stock falls far below your strike price. Selling a covered call obligates you to sell your shares at the strike even if the stock rallies well above it. Before trading options you should read the Options Clearing Corporation’s Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options and consult a licensed professional about your specific situation.
No guarantee of results
Past performance does not predict future results. Any examples, illustrations, hypothetical returns, or price levels are for teaching purposes only and do not represent actual trading or a promise of performance. Markets involve risk, including the possible loss of principal.
Positions and compensation
Nickelpie and its principals may hold positions in securities discussed on this site and may buy or sell them at any time without notice. We disclose those positions on each relevant article and in our position & affiliate disclosure. We may earn a commission when you open an account through a broker referral link, disclosed adjacent to the link.
Accuracy
We work to keep content accurate and current, but we make no warranty, express or implied, as to its completeness, timeliness, or accuracy, and we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on it. Third-party links are provided for convenience and are not endorsements.
